Tilt at the Hong Kong Vase. . .

Not bad for a lovingly labelled 'Group 3 galloper'

Some on here didn't think he deserved his place in the Yalumba, I wonder what they think of getting a start in the Hong Kong Vase.

Great stuff.

Trivia

seventhheaven

Name the person who has had two runners over the last 7 days for 2 winners?

He he :)

He did it again. 5/1 two weekends in a row and knocked off the $1.70 pop two weekends in a row.

Newitt - Whip

seventhheaven

Does anyone know that bozo's name from the Age or Herald that insists on raising the same issue year after year about jockey's and the use of their whip at carnival time?

I am trying to find his name so I can contact him somehow.

What irks me is this bozo does not raise this issue during the autumn or winter but when the spotlight is firmly on our great sport.

This is weak and spineless and I'm going to let him know about it. Obviously just trying to find something to write about to sell papers.

This year he chose to pick on Craig Newitt.

Did this bozo see how many times Blake Shinn smacked Viewed? I can tell you it was quite a few more than Newitt did on Pre Eminence, but no, he had written his article for the year and probably wasn't even watching.

? FORM

seventhheaven

Some will question the form of Yellowstone and his place in the MC.

What about Allesandro Volta?
1 X 1800m LISTED WIN
1 X 2296m GROUP 3 WIN

Prized Lady?

2 X Group 1 Auckland Cups (These are Group 3's at best)

Varevees?

Best win is a Group 3 over 3100?

Yellowstone would have met the Caulfield Cup winner All The Good 5.5 kilos better off a 4.8 length defeat two starts back.

How does he not deserve his place but those three do?

Oaks - 2500

seventhheaven

Two questions, and I would be interested in the thoughts of fellow forum members.

1.) Why is the discussion never raised about bringing the VRC Oaks back to 2500m?
You would think conformation wise that a 3YO colt would be able to handle the extra trip better than a filly, generally speaking.
Also, trainers speak of taxing a horse over the 2500m in the Derby. With many of the males being geldings I would have thought this would haven't been as much of an issue than the 2500m for fillies as they have value in the breeding barn later on.

2.) Why have the class horses struggled in recent years, ie. Octagonal, Tie The Knot, Whobegotyou, to run out the 2500m yet the class 3YO filly usually wins without much fuss? Is there such a gap between the good and bad fillies compared to the 3Y0 males?

Water - Septimus

If they water the track for Septimus I will give up on this great sport.

I'm going out for a bloody drink!

Derby 2500 - 2000

seventhheaven

I'm buggered If I know but would anyone else out there that has half a brain when it comes to training a horse like to explain to me how 500 metres more is going to effect a 3YO?

All these myths flying around that it wrecks 3YO's is absolutely fairytale stuff.

If I was preparing a horse for a 2500m Derby off a 2000m Norman Robinson, rather than a 2000m Derby off a 2000m Norman Robinson, the only difference I would make to a horses slow work is another lap of the sand on slow mornings and an extra furlong evens fast work.

How does that kill a horse?

What is the big deal?

The Derby has been 2500 for decades and should stay that way.

Trainers like Danny O'Brien are going to kill off any staying potential we have in this country with his comments.

A 2000m Victoria Derby is a joke.

Hindsight - Makybe Diva

There has been alot of talk on the forum lately in regards to hindsight.

I saw Alcimedes make mention of Franklin Gardens and that particular horse getting pulled up out of the Melbourne Cup 100 yards from the post.

Have a look back at the horses Makybe Diva beat on that day and let me know what you guys think -
