Ranger for the Railway

Timesman

I waited until the weights came out to see what Ranger was allocated. I see he drops 3.5kgs on last years run and is meeting the current favourite and last years winner about 6.5kgs better than last time. I reckon at the quote of $10 to $12 it has to be a good gamble. I reckon Fawkner to run the quinella.

Love to hear everybody's thoughts, but please don't remind me about last years protest or I will be ill in my keyboard.

Gee I love a good mile race.

Laws clause: I am on at $12 and will back Fawkner top fluctuation.

R Deans and Aussie no shows

Timesman

After last nighs embarassing effort R Deans needs to go along with most of the backline. I never expected the Aussies to win but I expected them to show up. I pity the poor folk who have to sit through more garbage like that at Suncorp. Not to score a single point is a disgrace.

I wouldn't feed them.

The backline had no sting and the most innovative tactic we had was a chip kick. It was almost as if we didn't want to run with ball, quick get rid of it. It was almost comedy when one of the wobblies placed the ball on the NZ side of the breakdown. Maybe he wants to play with them? Maybe he is trying to give the ball away.

What an absolute joke of a team.

Wholesale changes must happen if we don't want to become laughing stocks. Actually we already are.
I hear the owners of Sea Siren won't start SS if she gets a penalty from yesterday. This is the first reason to be careful if you want to back SS in the Straddie. The second is that weights may be raised given BP pulled up lame yesterday and is the current topweight. TABNSW is not showing SS is "doubtful" some other agencies are.

Great win yesterday by SS in breaking a 78 year record ie no filly winning the race before yesterday. Time was good as well.

TAB Fixed Odds what a joke

Timesman

I see the last at Caulfield yesterday had the winner starting at $7.00. TAB fixed odds paid $5.50. Yet again, the TAB misleads its investors into thinking that they are offering a real bookmaking service.

Laws Clause: 1 investment on the day, got winner of race 7, invested on two horses in the race. No investment on the race in question.

Is TAB meant to be providing a proper bookmaking service?

Are fixed odds meant to be reflective of the betting on track?

Are fixed odds set at a level below actual prices because TAB knows that they can do whatever they want?

Gee I love racing and getting onto Betfair and other internet bookmakers.

Pls turn tap off before you go

Timesman

It would be much appreciated if the last person responsible for watering duties would pls switch the tap off before you go home. We have a sort of biggish meeting on Saturday 24 September 2010)so everything needs to be on track (apart from to much water). If any staff member is unclear about how to turn a tap off pls consult the tap manual, if still in doubt, pls contact the local hotdog vendor, if still is doubt, pls use bottles to gather excess water and sell at reduced prices along Alison Road, given it is bore water.
Did anyone other than me think it was strange that Mark Kavanagh was a little down after the CC? Obviously Bruce Clark from TVN did. He had to ask twice to ensure he was really dissappointed.

Bruce asked was he deflated about the scratching of Maldivian. Surprisingly, Mark Kavanagh said he was. I would have thought Mark would be over the moon that his horse had blood streaming from his neck and just missed out on a few million.

I just can't believe how Mark wasn't just jumping out of his skin with excitement that his horse just sliced his neck open.

Now on a more serious note:

Mark Kavangh showed himself to be the true gentlemen in speaking to Bruce Clark. Most other trainers would have told him to, well you know what.

Why not leave the bloke alone, why seek him out to do an interview.

Last week Bruce interviewed Craig Williams after his ride on Shrewd Rythm and said something like "you must have been happy running eighth". Craig looked at him as though he had recently escaped from the loony centre.

Gee I love sensitive and intelligent interviewers.

Please tell me if I am being too harsh.
To All Body Contact Lovers,

I thought it was interesting to read Judy Boyd's comments in today's papers that Les her husband did not "mean to use his elbow" and break Darryl Brohman's jaw back in 1983. Judy was stating that Les's actions were accidental.

Do learned forumites think that foul play is:

1.0 A genetic disposition of certain humans?

2.0 A learned form of bahaviour from one's upbringing and/or environment ie friends, sporting coach etc?

3.0 A spur of the moment adrenalin result? Probably inextricably linked to point 1.

4.0 A mixture of the above.

My position is that it is number 4.

In regard to the Boyd/Brohman issue, Darryl Brohman in my view was more than entitled to pursue Les Boyd civily and this business about what goes on, on the field stays on the field is limited to sport up to under 10's.

If you wish to impact one's ability to earn an income and support their family, then you can fund the consequences. An elbow to one's jaw is foul play unless evidence proves conclusively to the contrary ie an accident.

Swinging arms and elbows (albeit rare) more often than not, are not accidents.

Gee I love a bit of contact.

Well done to T Vasil for making stewards (and ultimately investor) aware of the visit Haradasun made to the vet. Lee Freedman can learn a few lessons from Vasil. Further, in regard to the OSJ matter where Lee Freedman was fined $2000 I note that certain journalists included R Dufficy on racing retro were saying that how can a trainer advise stewards of every little event in a horses preparation if it is slightly out of the norm. I say, a visit to the vet is enough of an event to advise stewards, breaking wind is not. In the matter of OSJ, the real question in my mind is would OSJ have started favourite and if yes, would it have started so short. I say no on both counts if the visit to the vet was made public. Look at the betting impact that a visit to the vet made on Haradasun. You are never to old to learn Lee, thats the beauty of life, lets hope you have on this occassion. Laws Clause: I was on OSJ when he "competed" last week.

KING STAND STAKES

Timesman

Do learned forumites have any thoughts on the King Stand Stakes. Betting in Australia currently has Takeover Target at 9/2, Moss Vale at 7/1, La Cucaracha at 8/1 and Tax Free at 10/1.

I would be interested in any thoughts our UK friends (yes you are are our friends, look at how we kept the rugby score down tonight to make it interesting) could contribute.

PS We sometimes can jag overs in Australia (on non-Aussie runners) when Aussie horses are running in your neck of the world.

LEAVE IT TO BEAVIS

Timesman

You have to just love it.

Mr Wayne Beavis thinks (todays telegraph) that the camerman who sent the footage to the NRL (of Mr T Barrett lifting his forearm to the face of Mr Brian Carney) committed an act of stupidity.

The only act of stupidity was committed by T Barrett and probably by Mr Beavis for making the comment.

I commend all parents and clear thinking individuals to scan the games each week and report any "meathead" who brings the game into disrepute to the NRL. I know this will take a lot of time, but it will be worth it.

A large number of the NRL players and coaches are simply children in mens' bodies. How else can one explain the childish behaviour both on and off the field. Getting drunk, hitting women, assaulting people and really enjoying punch-ups on the field.

I say boys, grow up or go back to child-care where you belong.

As regards tackling, its only a matter of time before a neck is broken with tackles passing the horizontal position.

I suggest that all players, coaches and administrators take a good hard look at themselves and ask the question, is this the example we should be setting our children, our players of tomorrow or do we just care about winning games, money and TV ratings.

Finally, I wonder if Mr Beavis comments would be different if it was his son on the end of Mr Barrett's forearm, better still, his face.

Lets do away with the foul play and restore rugby league to the great game that it was.
