How is it possible

willow15

How can it be that two different horses with the same name can race in Australia on Saturday. Horses named Less Is More are racing in race 4 at Nanango in Queensland and race 4 at Randwick. The one racing at Nanango is having its sixth race start, having first raced in 2010 while the one at Randwick is a former French trained horse having its second Australian race start. How the import has been allowed to race in Australia under that name is any ones guess.

Magic Millions 2yo race

Surprise, surprise to hear John Singleton on Racing Retro on Sky bemoaning the fact that he can’t get group or listed status for the Magic Millions 2yo race. It doesn’t matter how much prize money is thrown at the race it will always be a restricted 2yo race that pales in comparison both in public interest and field quality to the Golden Slipper and Blue Diamond and nothing he can say or do will change that fact.

To imply as he did that the Group One races in Hong Kong and Dubai don’t deserve Group One status because they are invitation only races shows just how little he really knows.

Invitation only, yes but any horse in the world can receive an invitation to compete in these races if they are considered good enough, but Singleton just doesn’t own any horses good enough to get an invitation.
Does anyone know if there has ever been a sprinter race in Australia who has surpassed Takeover Target's achievement of at least twelve wins at 1200 metres while bettering 70 seconds in each win. I can't think of another horse that has even come close to matching that achievement even when only taking into consideration performances on tracks no worse than dead.

Greg Miles

Does anyone know is Greg Miles return to calling the Melbourne races on Sky last weekend is a permanent move or if it just a one off.

It was great to hear Australia’s premier race caller again without having to listen on the radio.

MISS ANDRETTI

willow15

Another pathetic failure by Miss Andretti in an International Group One race. I’m sure Freedman will have excuses again but won’t be able to use the wet track, quick backup or choking down excuses used to explain the Golden Jubilee failure.

After hearing Freedman cast doubts on the strength of sprint racing in Hong Kong in recent weeks I know who will be having the last laugh with Hong Kong trained horses filling the first five placings.

MISS FINLAND

willow15

MISS WORLD? NO! MISS DUDD!

Miss Finland must be the most overrated horse in Australia, more plodder than superstar.

If she couldn't beat a 9'yo having his last start before retirement in last years Cox Plate carrying a feather weight, then how could anyone expect her to win this years Cox Plate carrying at least 10kg more.

I can't believe they are still talking about taking on the best WFA races overseas next year with her when she can't even win moderate WFA races at home. Singapore of Macau would probably be her limit.

Turnbull Stakes

Australia's middle distance WFA stars are PATHETIC! Bring Fields Of Omagh back from retirement, the old age pensioner of Australian WFA racing would probably be a good thing to win back to back Cox Plates on what we saw on Saturday.

Edward Manifold Stakes

Its hard to take this race seriously as a group two event when the winner runs a pathetic 1:40.14 for the 1620 metres, even allowing for the dead track and can't even break 36 seconds for the final 600 metres of such a slow pace. These are times I would expect in a maiden at Colac, not a group two event. Are this seasons 3yo fillies really this bad?

Miss Andretti

willow15

Having heard Shawn Buckley who is Miss Andretti's owner interviewed by Steve Moran on Radio Sport 927's Racing Central program, and who has just returned from a field trip to Hong Kong in preparation Miss Andretti racing in the International Sprint in Decenber, I was very surprised to hear that he is under the impression that that race is held down the Sha Tin straight track course (1000 metres). For a few years now the race has been run over 1200 metres around the bend the Sydney way of going. I was also very surprised that Moran also seemed to be ignorant of the facts as he did not correct Buckley.
Buckley also mentioned the Miss Andretti home page on the Racing and Sports web site, but I was surprised (or maybe not) to find that the opening page has not been updated since prior to the running of the Golden Jubilee and did not reflect her failure in said race, but just the win in the King's Stand. There has been plenty of time since to have it updated Shawn.

Chris Munce

Are the rumours of some sort of benefit night being organised for Chris Munce correct. Surely there is any number of worthwile causes that people associated with the racing industry could raise money for before raising money for a convicted criminal.
