All Silent

hitensile

One of my old fav’s All Silent is back to Rosehill tomorrow, he’s a horse I’ve always held in high regard. They took him to Hong Kong and Dubai a couple of years ago, he came back a different horse. Grahame Begg has acknowledged the trip had a big impact “It took a long time for him to get over those trips overseas. Last year he spent more than three months in quarantine. He shed his coat in the 50 degree heat every day while he was in Dubai and when he got back home it took a long time for his coat to grow back.” Begg said

Last year prior to the Doomben 10000 Begg said he was hoping the horse was back to his best despite not showing anything in his first up run.. I’d suggest Begg was hoping to see his good second up form return… it didn’t..

I've long given up on him as a punting proposition but always kept an eye on him in the run. It hasn’t been pretty to watch this horse I'd pencilled in as a potential star go around for the past couple of years. They say travelling a horse can knock them around and in All Silent’s case he must have been on the upper end of that scale. Quite sad seeing a personal favourite and 3 time GRP 1 winner performing well below best.

Then 3 weeks ago in the Liverpool City Cup, at last he showed something indicating he may be back to full health. After interference at the start All Silent flashed home for a nice 4th to Ofcourseican. Shinn said in the stewards report “his mount was not handling the soft going and did not travel well, resulting in him losing touch with the leaders mid race and it was not until he rode his mount at the entrance to the straight that All Silent responded and ran home solidly “

The first sign of life for quite some time. If All Silent is back to good health this year’s Ajax, a race he won in 2008, then I suggest he is in it up to his big hairy ears. I know he ticks nearly every box in the “reasons not to back this horse handbook” wide barrier, long time between wins but I just feel there was merit and now form around his last start. He came home in exactly the same time as the winner Ofcourseican 34.49 after interference and not travelling well in the going.

Currently $26 on fixed odds. Probably the right price.. it might well be a very good price if what I thought I saw in the Liverpool City Cup really was the real deal. Forgetting about his history for a moment, was that a great first up run – yes. Now remembering his history, was that his best run in around 3 years – yes. Geez I hope he still goes good 2nd up.

I’m also having a running double… prefer to stay Silent in the second leg.

Re Work the Room. It was all about timing. If he was to race in the Spring he had to be turned out immediately after the Sandown win...and that's what happened. The Spring will just be a bit of experience for him. He will be 4yo with only a maiden win at Ballarat and a mid week Sandown win under his belt......racing against seasoned Group horses. The Autumn will be his go. I hope I have another El Segundo....and that the Bel Esprit blood does not limit his ability to get over distance.

Cox Plate Melb Cup double

hitensile

I am one of the dinosaurs still using TAB. However I am keen on having a serious lunge at the double and want to check out the alternatives to get the best price available.

I looked at couple of sites (Sportsbet and Sporting bet) and see they were offering better odds than TAB for the win, hope this translates to the double as well.

Who have you found offer the best prices for this kind of bet ?

How much can you get set for ?

Thanks in advance.
Why is it, horses coming back in distance is nearly always viewed as a negative ?

What prompts the question is Sir Slick coming back to the 1350 after 1800 & 2000 at his previous 3 starts. Can a horse be this versatile ? It has cost the connections over 20k to put him in the race so they will need a 4th place or better to recoup their outlay.

I am respectful of the trainer and his placement. He has a great rapport with the horse however it still appears rather odd. Odd enough to wonder what the bloody hell is he doing there ? So what could be Nicholsons thought process with coming back in distance for this race ?

Currently my F.F looks this way A.C, Bank Robber, Danleigh, Sir Slick and Mr Slick boxed. $20 for 16%. So you see I think he can fill a place. But i'll need Court Command not to cross Sir.S. Light Fantastic and Bank Robber not to drive him mad and for the very fit Sir Slick to jump to the front and set up a big break, 4 or 5 and ride for dear life in the last 150m.

Anyway I digress... the question was..what is the biggest problem facing horses coming back in distance and why is it seen as a negative ?

thanks Hit

Star Stable Top 8

hitensile

Top eight stables and their Grp 1 runners at Randwick. (Trading period still open)

Jacks Back, Squid and Hareeba have bought well and have 3 and 4 runners each in the big money race. Squid and Hareeba look very strong in the Doncaster. Jack's Back strong in the Sires Produce. Phelan Ready appears to be the lock for the rest of us.

Gallent Tess would be a huge result for the leader, Ruby Racing. All the top 4 stables have G.T and would give them all a big boost for the run home.

I'm pretty much praying for rain.

My top 3 after Saturday..

1, Hareeba, 2 Squids Scrubbers, 3 Jack's Back

All stables please feel free to add your runners, couldn't do 'em all..

Good Punting !

Found on NZHerald bloggs... Nominations for the greatest living kiwi.

Nominations included Peter Jackson, Sir Edmond, Helen Clark and Pinetree Meads...

Pinkline Jones (Japan)

I am shocked that New Zealanders fail to recognise the obvious answer here. Sunline, the greatest Australasian mare of all time with 32 wins from 48 starts (including 13 Group Ones)is without doubt the greatest living NZer, with daylight twenty five lengths back in second place. Until makers of badly-acted cartoons can win a Doncaster leading all the way with 58kg I will treat Peter Stuyvesant and others with the disdain they deserve.

" Until makers of badly-acted cartoons can win a Doncaster leading all the way with 58kg..."

Randwick today

hitensile

A bit gun shy when it comes to tipping but today there are a couple I really like at the right price.

Syd R6 No3 Lucky Thirteen. in form as is stable. Currently $5.80 and that is, imo, good value. The money for Zeta might keep this one real value. Danger: Choisie, Nikolic.

Syd R7 No9 Bejewelled. Like Lucky Thirteen won second up up last prep and although stepping up in grade I reckon she can improve.
Danger: Guru, Getting across from Barrier 11.

If I had to pick one...i'd have to toss a coin.

Good luck.

Name assistance please

hitensile

I saw some good names last time someone asked the forum for assistance in naming their horse. Thought i'd do same.
First time into a race horse and would like come up with a smart name to throw into the ring with the other shareholders. Need some help as I can't seem to get past the "blu" part.

Murpheys Blu Boy ( Blu Tusmani ex Murphy's Arch)) - Tomber (Jeune)

(they say its pronounced with a B but silent B as in Tomb may make sense too)

So far I have..

Inner Blu
Blu Raider
Blu Prospect
First Blu
Deep Blue
Blu Vain ;)
Pinkline Blu
McGarrets Blue Boy

You can see why I need help !
